Halal food in Batam

Honest labels, not guesses. We show what the evidence says — and what you should still check.

Batam is a Muslim-majority city, but it also has many Chinese-Indonesian restaurants that serve pork. For visitors from Singapore and Malaysia, the safe approach is to look for evidence, not assumptions.

  • Halal certification reported — A source says this place is halal-certified. We haven't seen the certificate — check it on site or in BPJPH's database.
  • States halal / no pork — A source or the map data says the place is halal or serves no pork. This is not certification.
  • Halal status unknown — We don't know. Ask the venue — don't assume. These places are not shown here.

We never assume a place is halal because it serves seafood, has Muslim staff, or has a certificate for one product. In Indonesia, halal certification is run by BPJPH; you can search its database at bpjph.halal.go.id.

Quick answers

Is seafood in Batam automatically halal?+

No. Seafood itself is generally permissible, but kitchens may share equipment or serve pork and alcohol. Check each venue.

How can I check halal certification in Indonesia?+

Look for the Indonesian halal logo and certificate in the restaurant, and search the venue or product on BPJPH's website. A certificate for one product does not cover the whole restaurant.

Why does a place say 'states halal' rather than 'certified'?+

Because we only know that a source or the map data describes it as halal or pork-free. We have not verified a certificate.

How many places are listed?+

BatamGems lists 12 places for this page. Places with full researched guides include Mie Terempa'k, Abun Cha Kue, Sushi Tei.

How are places chosen and ranked?+

Places come from OpenStreetMap and our own research. Pages with researched details (hours, contacts, dishes, halal evidence) are shown first. Ranking is never paid — sponsored placements, if any, are labelled.

Locations © OpenStreetMap contributors. Hours, menus and halal status change — confirm with the venue. Images are illustrations.
