Neighbourhood guide

Nagoya

The old downtown: markets, malls and late-night food.

Nagoya, in the Lubuk Baja district, is Batam's original downtown. It grew up around trading shophouses and is still the busiest part of the island for shopping, street food and late nights.

Expect older malls, hawker-style food streets, money changers and massage parlours side by side. It is dense, a little chaotic and very walkable once you are in the centre.
